Is Disney World Busy in August?

As you can see from the Disney World crowd calendar below, the month of August is generally pretty manageable, as far as crowds go.

Disney World August Crowd Calendar

While this is true for most of the month, with the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 29th, you can definitely plan on increased crowds that week.

How to Beat the Disney World Crowds

FastPass+ System

Disney knows that there will be crowds at Disney World and has come up with ways to help you spend less time waiting in line.

The FastPass+ System is available to all park guests and allows you to “skip to the front of the line” at many attractions with a little pre-planning.

Guests staying at one of the many Disney World resort hotels are able to make FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance of their vacation.

Park guests who are planning to stay at a hotel not on Disney property can make reservations 30 days in advance of their vacation.

You can make FastPass+ reservations online or through the My Disney Experience app.

Advanced Dining Reservations

Table service restaurants at Disney World can fill up fast and it is rare that you can just show up and expect to get a table.

What are the Best Character Meals at Disney World?

Disney allows anyone, whether staying on property or not, to make dining reservations 180 days before travel.

These reservations are called Advance Dining Reservations or ADR’s.

Is the Disney Dining Plan Worth the Money

Planning ahead and making your dining reservations as soon as you can, will help you to enjoy your favorite meals and beat the crowds!

Another way to beat the crowds is to use Rider Switch if you are traveling with small children.

Rider Switch Pass from Disneyland

Rider Switch is designed for guests who are visiting with a child who is too small or may not want to ride certain attractions.

One adult can sit out with that child while the other adult goes on the ride.

When the adult who rode the ride is done, the other adult can then ride with up to two guest without waiting in the stand-by line!

What to Pack for Walt Disney World in August

It’s important to know what you will and won’t need to pack for a Disney trip in August and I’m here to help!

You don’t want to be underprepared and end up using your vacation budget for things that could easily have been brought from home.

Want to know how you can bring everything you need, yet still save money and room in your suitcase?

Check out my post on How Amazon Can Save You Money at Disney and 10 Items you Need in your Disney Park Bag!

Here are a few things you might want to consider packing if you’ll be traveling to Disney World in August.

Pack an Umbrella, Poncho, and Stroller Protection

The weather in Orlando can be very unpredictable. Rain storms can form and dissipate quickly.

Be prepared with a small travel umbrella or a disposable rain poncho.

Ponchos can also come in handy to wear on rides like Kali River Rapids or Splash Mountain to keep your clothes nice and dry.

If you will have a stroller with you at Disney World, I recommend brining a plastic shower curtain liner from the dollar store.

You can secure it over your stroller with clothes pins to keep it dry while you are watching a show or riding an attraction.

Works like a champ!

 Pack Sun Protection

The Florida sun can be brutal, especially in August! Be ready for the UV rays by packing some sunscreen and a hat!

Also, make sure your kids are protected too. Nothing ruins a magical vacation like a sunburn!

Pack a Travel Blanket

It’s a good idea to bring along a travel blanket to Disney World in August. I used it to cover my son’s stroller while napping.

It can also be used to sit on while watching a parade or fireworks show!

Pack for Hot Weather, but Bring a Jacket

You will most likely not need long pants when visiting Disney in August, but it is a good idea to bring along a sweatshirt or jacket for the days that call for all day rain.

Even in August, it can get really cool when the rain comes to stay. I found this out the hard way while at EPCOT.

On normal, hot August days, I suggest wearing a short-sleeved top and shorts during the day along with comfortable shoes.

Ride Closures at Walt Disney World in July

Disney is great at keeping their rides and attractions in top notch form. That is one of the reasons that I will spend more money to visit their theme parks.

In August, there are less ride closures than other times of the year because it is considered peak season.

For an updated list of what rides will be closed in August, visit Disney World’s website.
