Festival of the Arts Food Reviews
While it was not possible for me to try everything on this list, I was able to sample quite a few food items. Here are my reviews of what I tried.
Deconstructed Key Lime Pie (The Deconstructed Dish)
Flexible Key Lime Curd, “Key Lime” Mousse, Graham Cracker Cake and Meringues
My Review: All of the elements of this dessert were delicious. I think I prefer standard key lime pie better. 8/10
Deconstructed Apple Pie à la Mode (The Deconstructed Dish)
Apple-Cinnamon Gelato, Cinnamon Apple Cider, Apple Pie Filling and Streusel (nonalcoholic)
My Review: This drink was like an apple pie float with gelato on the bottom, topped with sparkling apple cider and topped with streusel. I would say that it was good, but not great. The apple cider made the gelato freeze too much on top creating ice crystals which took away from the experience of eating it. 7/10
Pop’t Art (Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey)
Sugar Cookie with Blueberry Filling (Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine item)
My Review: I actually liked this cookie a lot. It reminded me of the pop tarts from Woody’s Lunch Box at Hollywood Studios, but better. 9/10
Rainbow Cake with freeze-dried SKITTLES® bite-sized candies (Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey)
My Review: This cake was good! The freeze-dried Skittles added delicious colorful treats to decorate the cake, but as far as the flavor and texture of the cake, it was delicious! 9/10
Grape Smoothie with freeze-dried SKITTLES bite-sized candies (nonalcoholic) (Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey)
My Review: This was such a cute drink and came in the cutest cup featuring Figment, on of the beloved Disney characters. The flavor was good and not overly sweet. 8/10
Rainbow Katsu Sando (Goshiki)
Pork Cutlet Sandwich with Tangy Tonkatsu Sauce and Cabbage in Rainbow Sweet Bread
My Review: This sandwich was great! Especially with the cabbage. I would definitely get it again. 8/10
Sushi Donut (Goshiki)
Donut-Shaped Sushi featuring Salmon, Tuna, Shrimp, Cucumber and Sesame Seed over a decorated plate of Wasabi Aïoli, Sriracha Aïoli and Eel Sauce
My Review: This was another item that was good, but not great. 7/10
Ichigo Daifuku (Goshiki)
Mixed Beery Mochi, Sweet Azuki Bean Paste and Mascarpone
My Review: This Mochi was ok, but I am used to ice cream Mochi, so this wasn’t my favorite. 6/10
Mozzarella Fritta (L’Arte di Mangiare)
Flash-Fried Breaded Fresh Mozzarella with Artist Palette Condiments
My Review: I was excited for this one, but once again, I wasn’t blown away. It was basically a flat mozzarella stick. The variety of sauces was fun though. 7/10
General Tso’s Chicken Shumai (The Painted Panda)
My Review: This was an interesting combination, but it worked. I liked the flavor and texture. 8/10
Char Siu Pork Bun (The Painted Panda)
My Review: Another win from the Painted Panda. I thought the pork was very flavorful and delicious paired with the bun. 8/10
Gnocchi Poutine with Red Wine-Braised Beef, Cheese Curds, Basil and Burrata (Refreshment Port)
My Review: This dish is one of the famous comfort foods and had so much potential, but sadly was not very good. The biggest problem was the gnocchi. It was so dry! I think if it had been more moist, this item could have been amazing. 6/10
