Ingredients to make Philly cheesesteak sloppy joes.

Ingredients

*Ingredient amounts are located in the recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Ground Beef: The hearty base of the sloppy joes; cooks up quickly and is full of flavor.
  • Diced Onion: Adds sweetness and depth; a must for that classic cheesesteak vibe
  • Diced Green Pepper: Brings a little crunch and color, plus a fresh, slightly tangy taste.
  • Beef Broth: Helps create a rich, savory sauce that soaks into the meat.
  • Steak Sauce: Adds bold, tangy flavor and gives the beef a steakhouse-style kick.
  • Steak Seasoning: A blend of spices that enhances the meaty flavor—perfect for a Philly twist.
  • Provolone Cheese: Melts beautifully into the meat for that gooey, cheesy finish.
  • Sandwich Rolls or Buns: Soft rolls like hoagie buns or hamburger buns hold all the goodness and make it handheld-friendly.

How to Store and Reheat Leftovers

To store leftover Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes, let the meat mixture cool completely, then transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days.

When you're ready to reheat, warm it on the stovetop over medium heat or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between.

Tips & Tricks

  • Use lean ground beef: It keeps the mixture from getting too greasy but still packs flavor.
  • Dice veggies evenly: Small, uniform pieces of onion and pepper cook faster and mix better with the meat.
  • Toast the buns: Lightly toasting your rolls keeps them from getting soggy and adds a nice texture.
  • Add cheese last: Melt provolone on top of the finished meat or layer it directly onto the bun for that perfect gooey bite.
  • Customize with mushrooms: Want to take it up a notch? Add sautéed mushrooms for a steakhouse-style upgrade.
  • Make it ahead: The meat mixture reheats well, so it’s great for meal prep or busy nights.
  • Try different cheeses: Provolone is classic, but mozzarella, white American, or even cheddar work great too!
