Travel to Vancouver
About six months before the cruise, I booked a direct flight from Salt Lake City to Vancouver with Delta using SkyMiles that I had earned from my Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express Card. The flight took just less than two and a half hours.
After getting off the plane, we were able to quickly go through customs and head to baggage claim. We took the Sky Train from the airport to the Waterfront station for about $20 for the five of us.
We stayed a couple of blocks from Canada Place at Delta Hotels Vancouver Downtown Suites which was great and had plenty of room for our family of 5. It had a bedroom with two queen beds as well as a sofa bed in the living room.

Dinner at HellCrust Pizza
We wanted to stay close to the hotel for dinner so we found this pizza place across the street called HellCrust Pizza. We ordered their special which was two pizzas, boneless chicken wings and a 2 liter of soda for about $35
The pizza was good, but our order took a really long time because there was only one employee working at the time. My family really loved the Chicken Wings.
Embarkation Day
After a good night’s sleep, it was time to check out of our hotel and take the 11 minute walk to the cruise terminal at Canada Place. Our Port Arrival Time (PAT) was 11:30 and we arrived at the port right in time.
We dropped off our luggage, then proceeded to get in line for check in. I did notice at this port, there was not different lines for Castaway levels like at many other ports, but the line moved pretty quickly. After going through customs, we were able to board the Disney Wonder.
Lunch at Cabanas
For lunch, we headed to the back of the ship to enjoy the buffet called Cabanas. The buffet can be busy on embarkation day, so be aware that there will be a sit-down restaurant open for lunch as well.
Some of the items we ate were salad, rolls, lamb chops, pasta, stir-fry, olives, macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders, and fries. Sodas are also included with your fare on a Disney cruise.
Kids Club & Teen Clubs
After lunch we went to get the boys checked into the teen clubs. The Edge is located on deck 9 and is ideal for for ages 11-14. The Vibe is on Deck 11 Midship and is ideal for ages 14 – 17.
We then headed to deck 5 to check into the kids club. This club is divided into two sections. Oceaneer Lab is geared toward older kids up to age 10 and includes things like….Oceaneer Clubs is for younger kids, starting at age 3 and includes a fun Toy Story-themed play area among other things.
One the things I love about the kids club is the hand washing station. It is automatic and my kids say its like a car wash for your hands.
Stateroom 6050 Verandah Room Tour
Alaska Disney cruises can be VERY expensive. One way that we saved money on this cruise was instead of booking a Deluxe Family Verandah, which is what we typically book on a Disney cruise, we booked a Verandah room with an Inside Room directly across the hall.
Stateroom 6051 Inside Room Tour
Our inside room was a little bit smaller than the verandah room. The closet was half the size and there was no split bathroom, but the shower was more spacious. This room had the potential to sleep 4 guests.
Dinner at Triton’s
Our first dinner was at Triton’s which is themed after the Little Mermaid. The menu and review of everything we ate here can be found in my article, Disney Alaska Cruise Menus found here.
Some of the items we ate were: Gaston’s Escargot Gratinee, Breaded and Deep Fried Brie, French Onion Soup, Warm French Country Bread, Olive Spread, Conchiglie Pasta with Buttered Lobster, Crispy Roasted Duck Breast, Chateaubriand-Roasted Filet Steak, Grilled Marinated Tofu, Roasted Zucchini, Eggplant, and Red Peppers, Kids’ Whole Wheat Pasta, Mickey Ice Cream Bar, and the Strawberry Shortcake Sundae.
Sail Away
When it was time to set sail, we chose to experience this from our verandah. The views of Vancouver were beautiful and it was fun to sail under the Lion’s Gate Bridge.
Alaska Disney Cruise Merchandise
After dinner we headed to the gift shops to check out all of the special Alaska themed merchandise. The boys got some candy, and I bought a magnet, hat, and hoodie.
Disney Cruise Alaska Sea Day 2
On Day 2 of our Disney Alaska Cruise, we slept in and went to breakfast at Cabanas when everyone was up. We spent some time sitting on our verandah watching the beautiful scenery for a while. I was very happy that I had packed a couple of blankets to help us keep warm while we were outside. My husband and I also went to a seminar about Alaska, which was very informative.
Then the older boys went to the teen clubs and Shane took a nap. I took Lucas up to Deck 9 to go swimming in the heated pool. While he swam, I was bundled up in a chair drinking hot chocolate and watching the funnel vision. Crew members lay rolled up blankets on the pool chairs so that you can bundle up while enjoying the scenery.
Room Service
For lunch, we decided to order room service. Most items on the Room Service Menu are included with your cruise. Just plan to tip a dollar or two per item. Below is the “All Hands On Deck” cheese platter that we order almost every cruise!
Day 2 Dinner at Animator’s Palate
Dinner for us on Day 2 was at Animator’s Palate. This restaurant is fun because the decor starts out mostly black and white, but is color fun by the end of dinner. There is also a special surprise on your first visit to Animator’s Palate. Sorcerer Mickey makes a visit, so be sure to have your camera ready!
The kids menu has broccoli cheddar soup, garden salad, breaded fish nuggets, Mac ’n cheese, and crusty cheese pizza. For the Disney check meals there is grilled beef tenderloin with vegges or whole wheat pasta.
For dessert there is white chocolate cheesecake with strawberry sauce, a Mickey ice cream bar, or assorted ice cream. This lemon icebox pie is one of my favorite Disney Cruise desserts. I even made a replica recipe that is linked in the description so you can make it at home.
1970s Music Trivia
After dinner, Shane and I went to 1970s music trivia at Crown & Fin Pub. I thought we did pretty good, but were not any where close to winning. We had a great time anyway. Then we went to the adult area and had the hot tub so ourselves. It was nice, but super cold when we got out.
We then went down to Deck 3 forward to the Cadillac Lounge to listen to some piano music. The Cadillac Lounge is fun because everything is themed after a vintage Cadillac.
We decided to get to bed early so we could wake up for all of the fun on Glacier Day. This was our towel animal for the night, and I’m not quite sure what it is? If you have any ideas, please leave a comment and let me know!

Day 3 Glacier Viewing Day
Glacier Day felt a lot like a day at sea. We got up and took the kids to Cabanas for breakfast. This is when we discovered Churro Mickey Waffles. They were actually the BEST thing that I ate on the Disney cruise! We found out that they are usually served on sea days, so it was a treat that we got them on Glacier Day. To make your own churro waffles, get the recipe here.

Brunch at Palo
I was able to snag a reservation for my husband and I at Palo on Glacier Day. Palo is an Italian themed specialty restaurant that is for adults only. It is the only restaurant on board that has an extra charge, but I feel like the brunch is worth it!
We started out with some pastries. We choose these almond croissants and our server insisted that we try the blueberry muffins, which were delicious. Then we moved on to thecreamy heirloom tomato basil soup and a charcuterie plate.
One of our favorite dishes at Palo is the chicken parmesan with parmesan risotto, but we actually liked the lasagna more this time. For dessert our server recommended the Italian Zabaglione which was amazing and we also ordered the buttermilk panna cotta as well.
Glacier Viewing
After our brunch, we went back to our verandah to take in the sights and stay out of the rain. The closer we got to the glacier viewing area, the more icebergs we began to sea in the water.
The views from the ship were breathtaking and I don’t think the video and pictures do them justice. The colors were bright and vibrant and unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.
As we sailed out of Tracy Arm, my boys decided they wanted to swim in the rain. At least the pool is heated!
Freezing The Night Away Dinner Menu
For dinner, we were dined at Animator’s Palate again, but this time with a special Freezing the Night Away Menu. If you have sailed on the Disney Wish, you might notice that many of the items are similar to those served at Arendelle. Check out my article of what we ate on the Disney Wish here.
Magic Show
After dinner, it was time to head to the Walt Disney Theater to see Magician Eric Jones. We LOVED this show! He was very entertaining and engaging.
Back in our room, Lucas was surprised with Marvel Avengers-themed sheets that he was able to use for the rest of the cruise! I love little magic touches like this when sailing with Disney Cruise Line.
Day 4 Icy Strait Point
Over night, we made our way from Tracy Arm glacier viewing area to Icy Strait Point near Hoonah, Alaska. Once again, we went up to Deck 9 to have breakfast at Cabanas. There were no Churro Mickey Waffles this day, but there are always delicious croissants.

Icy Strait Point Port Adventure: Adventure Park & Ropes Course (IS28)
When sailing to Alaska with five people, costs can add up quickly. We saw this excursion for the Adventure Park and Ropes Course and knew this was the one for us. Not only do my boys Love ropes courses, but the cost wasn’t to crazy.
For ages 10 and up it was $74 and $54 for ages 5 to 9. This ticket also included a ride up the gondola, which I will show you in a few minutes.
Our excursion met inside this building, where we checked in with our guide. There were bathrooms and lockers in here to store items that you don’t want to carry with you.
We were then led outside to the Adventure Park & Ropes Course. We were fitted with a harness, helmet, and gloves and were given instructions and safety tips.
The courses started out pretty easy but became progressively harder as we went along. There are employees who guide you along the way and give you helpful tips if you happen to get stuck, or miss the other side of a zip line!
Gondola Ride
As I mentioned before, our Adventure Park and Ropes Course excursion included a ride on the gondola. There are two gondolas at Icy Strait Point. This Green one is complimentary to everyone and will take you up to the next level of the port, where another cruise ship happened to be docked.
The red gondola is a high-speed ride that will cost you $49.95 for adults or $39.95 for kids, but like I mentioned, it was included with our ticket, so check to see if its included with other excursions as well.
Dinner at Tiana’s Place
After our fun at Icy Strait Point, it was time to head back to the Wonder and get ready for dinner. Tiana’s Place is a fun Princess and the Frog themed restaurant that feels like it’s straight out of New Orleans. Here is the menu from our first visit on this cruise.
Some of the things we ate were: Louisiana Hot Crab Dip, Warm Cheddar Cheese and Applewood-smoked Bacon Tartlet, Coronation of Mixed Leaves, Lime-Marinated Jumbo Shrimp, New York Sirloin Steak, Baked Filet of Bering Sea Halibut, Louisiana Root Beer Creme, Banoffee Cream Pie, and Baked Alaska.
Day 5 Juneau, Alaska
Our excursion was schedule for 10:00 am, so we decided to have room service deliver breakfast for us. As I mentioned before, room service is included with your cruise, you’ll just want to tip the crew member who delivers it.
To order breakfast, you will fill out the card in your room and hang it on your door the night before. You will also choose a time for it to be delivered. We had donuts, pastries, cereal, bagels, juice, and milk.
Juneau Port Adventure: Mendenhall Glacier Explorer (JU11)
In Juneau, we chose the Mendenhall Glacier Explorer excursion. We met in the Azure club, where we checked in and waited to depart. This port adventure included a ride to and from the glacier on a double decker bus, with time to explore the area and visitors center on our own.
The price was $69 for ages 10 and up, $39 for ages 3-9 and free for ages 2 and under. When we arrived at the glacier, we went for a walk to the right and could see it over this lake.
There is a great visitor’s center at the glacier with tons of information and a great video about the Mendenhall Glacier area.
We also walked on a short trail to Nugget Falls, which is next to Mendenhall glacier. The falls plunge 377 feet down the mountain into Mendenhall Lake.
Then it was time to meet our driver and head back to the ship. Our bus did make a stop in downtown Juneau for those who wanted to get off and explore. We decided to get on the ship and grab some lunch.
Lunch on the Ship
After lunch and some ice cream, we walked over to the drink station to get some hot chocolate to enjoy on our verandah. My boys had a great idea and got two chocolate chip cookies from Daisy’s Delights and made their own ice cream sandwiches! Let me know if you have ever done this on a Disney Cruise.
Second Dinner at Triton’s
Our dinner that night was our second visit to Triton’s, which is themed after The Little Mermaid. Here are some of the items we ordered: Aged Prosciutto, Marinated Tiger Shrimp, Beefsteak Tomato and Vidalia Onion Salad, Roast Carrot and Parsnip Salad, Roasted Red Pepper Dip, Oven-Baked Lobster Tail, Fettuccine With Parmesan Crusted Chicken, Chocolate Lava Cake, The Captain’s Table Sundae, and Alaskan Strawberry Romanoff Bread Pudding.

Day 6 Ketchikan, Alaska
Our excursions in Ketchikan didn’t start until afternoon, so we went to a sit down breakfast at Tritons. If you want a sit down breakfast on the Wonder, you can head to Triton’s each day from 8:00 – 9:30 am unless otherwise noted.
We like to do this some days to have a more relaxed morning than visiting the chaos in Cabanas. We ordered an omelette, Eggs Benedict, French Toast, yogurt parfaits, and a Peanut Butter and Jelly Typhoon Pancake.
Then we enjoyed some time on our verandah, taking in the sights, as we sailed into Ketchikan, Alaska.
The Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show & Axe Throwing
The Great Alaskan Lumberjack show featured a Canadian team of lumberjacks vs. an American team competing in different events to prove their lumberjack skills. My kids loved it! Unfortunately, we were not able to take video, but we could take photos.
Our Lumberjack Show excursion included axe throwing after the show. We were with a small group and everyone had the chance to throw 4 or 5 times.
After some souvenir shopping, the boys and I headed back to the ship to get some lunch and wait for Shane to come back from his fishing excursion.
Lunch & Swimming
After lunch, Lucas and I went up to do some swimming and hang out in the hot tub. Swimming on an Alaskan Disney Cruise is great because the crowds tend to be low.
Ketchikan Port Adventure: Authentic Alaska Fishing (K36)
Shane has always wanted to fish in Alaska and this Authentic Alaska Fishing Port Adventure in Ketchikan was perfect for him! He traveled on a small boat with 5 other guests and took turns catching different varieties of fish. A bald eagle even flew up to their boat and caught a couple of fish! The cost of this excursion was $559.00 per person.
Second Dinner at Animator’s Palate
Our dinner on Day 6 was at Animator’s Palate again. For this second visit, each guest is able to draw their own character that will be animated with Disney characters at the end of the dinner. Here are some of the items we ordered: Tomato Caprese, White Cheddar and Broccolini Soup, Crisp Romaine Wedge Salad, Grilled Garlic-Marinated Shrimp with Linguini Pasta, Herb-Crusted Rack of Lamb, Roasted Filet of Beef Wellington, Chicken Schnitzel, Celebration Cake, Orchard Peach Tart, and Strawberry ‘n’ Cream Cake.
Ventriloquist Show
After dinner, it was time for the nightly show. This time it was ventriloquist Taylor Mason in the Walt Disney Theater. We enjoyed this show and actually saw him before when we sailed on the Disney Fantasy in 2018.
Watch the Video:
Day 7 At Sea
It was our last cruise day at sea, which meant Churro Mickey Waffles for breakfast! We enjoyed our waffles as our other Cabanas favorites.
Learning to Cook with a Disney Chef
After breakfast we headed to the D Lounge to learn how to bake Apple Strudel from a Disney Chef! One tip I learned is that he made the strudel on a white sheet and used that to help him roll the pastry.
The best part about this cooking class was that we got to taste test the apple strudel with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Lunch & Swimming
Lucas decided to go swimming, so Shane and I bundled up in our coats and drank hot chocolate while enjoying the scenery. After Lucas went swimming, we grabbed some lunch from the pool deck to eat in our room. Then we spent the afternoon bundled up on our verandah, enjoying the views.
Dinner at Tiana’s Place (Mardi Gras Night)
Dinner on our last night was at Tiana’s Place, this time to celebrate Mardi Gras! Each guest will get colorful beads to wear and there is a dance party at the end of dinner. Here are some of the menu items we ordered: Boudin Sausage Fritters, Iceberg Wedge, Big Daddy’s Roasted Prime-Rib of Beef, Tiana’s Buttermilk Beignets, Chocolate Doberge Gateau, Mama Odie’s White Chocolate Bread Pudding, New Orleans Bananas Foster Sundae, and Southern Style Pecan Nut Tart.
Packing to Leave
And now it’s time for the worst part of the cruise, packing to go home. The night before you disembark, you can pack your suitcases and leave them outside your door for your room host to take care of. Then the next morning, you don’t have to worry about lugging it all around. You can pick it up before going through customs when you’re are back in port.
After getting our packing done, we enjoyed the view from our verandah.
Disembarkation Day
Because we had early dining, our assigned breakfast time on disembarkation day was 6:30. Instead of doing this, we decided to go a few minutes later and have breakfast at Cabanas. We gathered up the rest of our belongings and headed up to breakfast at about 8:00 am.
We decided to spend a night in Vancouver to save on airfare costs and for a more convenient time. We planned to drop our luggage off at our hotel and explore the city, but I received a text that our room at Delta by Marriott Vancouver Downtown Suites was ready at 9:00 am! We were super happy about that so that we could just hang out in the room for awhile.
Vancouver, BC
We stayed at the Delta Hotels Downtown Vancouver Suites because it was just a couple of blocks from Canada Place, had decent prices, and could fit all five of us. This is where we stayed pre-cruise as well. I really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
For dinner, we decided to take a 10 minute walk to The Old Spaghetti Factory. This is one of our favorite restaurants, so we knew it would be somewhere the kids liked as well. Be sure to try my Spaghetti Factory Browned Butter & Mizithra Cheese recipe here.
A word of warning when walking here though, stay away from East Hastings Street. We did not research this ahead of time and found out the hard way, that it is not family friendly. We were even warned by someone on the sidewalk to not walk that way, but because of Stranger Danger, we didn’t listen. So learn from our mistake and stay away from East Hastings Street.
The next day we walked a couple of blocks and took the Sky Train back to the Airport. One thing I didn’t know about flying back to the US from Vancouver is that our TSA Pre Check service was available there and we went through US Customs at the Vancouver Airport, which made travel home that much easier.
Conclusion
Our Disney Cruise to Alaska on the Disney Wonder was a journey filled with magical moments, from the stunning natural beauty to the delightful onboard experiences. Every day brought new adventures and cherished memories. If you’re considering a Disney Cruise, I highly recommend reaching out to Get Away Today at 855-438-2929 and mentioning Mommy Mouse Clubhouse for help planning your perfect vacation!
