September is a great time, and one of the best months of the year, to visit Walt Disney World in Florida!
The weather is beginning to cool down, the lines are relatively short, and there are usually some pretty good deals to be had!
With that said, there are a few things to consider if you plan to visit Disney World in September.

Disney World Crowd Sizes in September
The crowds in September are among the lowest of the year, which is why it is a great time to visit!
Generally, the weekends will be a little busier than weekdays, but the crowds are still manageable.

There are also some special events that happen during the month that can have an effect on crowd sizes.
When looking at crowd levels at Disney World, I’ve noticed that whatever park has Extra Magic Hours that day, will be the busiest park.
If you don’t plan on taking advantage of Extra Magic Hours, then I would choose to visit a park that doesn’t have them that day.

Weather at Disney World in September
The weather can be predictable at Disney World in September. September is right in the middle of Hurricane season in Florida, so the possibility of a hurricane is always there.
The weather forecast for September in Orlando, shows rain or thunderstorms for many days during the month.
But this doesn’t necessarily mean that it will rain all day and ruin your magical vacation!
Many times, rainstorms will form quickly, then dissipate just as quickly.
The average high temperature in September is in the mid 80s to low 90s and lows are in the low to mid 70s.

Here are a few items that you will want to pack for your trip to Disney World in September.

Pack an Umbrella, Poncho, and Stroller Protection
Be prepared for the rain you will most likely have, with a travel umbrella and ponchos for the family!
Ponchos will come in handy on rides like Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids to keep your clothes dry!

If you’re taking a stroller with you to Disney World, you’ll want to bring along some kind of protective cover.
It never fails that you will be inside having a meal or riding an attaction, and a rainstorm will come and drench your stroller.
I know from experience.

Another inexpensive option is to bring a plastic shower curtain liner to cover your stroller and clothes pins to secure it. I have done this several times and it works like a champ!
Pack Sun Protection
The Florida sun can be brutal, even in September! You should be prepared with sunscreen to protect you and your family!
Another way to protect yourself from the heat of the sun is to wear sunglasses and a hat. Here are some cute options I found on Amazon below:

Pack a Travel Blanket
I always like to bring along a travel blanket when I go to Disney World in September.
Not only will it keep you warm if it gets cool at night, but it can also be used to sit on or save your place to watch a parade or show!

Pack for Warm/Hot Weather, but bring a Sweatshirt
The days are hot at Disney World in September, but the early mornings and late nights can get cool.
If you want to get to the parks of Disney World at rope drop, or are planning to use Extra Magic Hours early in the morning or late at night, you will most likely want a sweater.

I recommend packing jeans or leggings to stay warm and comfortable during the cooler temperatures.
Wear a short-sleeved top and bring a jacket or sweater that can be kept in a backpack or worn around your waist during the day.

Pack Disney-Themed Apparel
I love dressing myself and my kids up in Disney-themed gear when we head to Disney World!

Disney World Theme Park Hours in September
For the most part, these are the hours of operation at each of the Disney World parks during the month of September.
As always, hours are subject to change, so check the Disney World website for updated information.
Magic Kingdom Park
- Open from 8am-10pm (8am-6pm on Halloween Party days)
- Morning Extra Magic Hours 7am-8am
- Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 7pm-12am (select nights)
Epcot
- Open from 9am-9pm or 10pm
- Morning Extra Magic Hours 8am-9am
- Evening Extra Magic Hours 9pm-11pm
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Open from 9am-10pm
- Morning Extra Magic Hours 6am-9am
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
- Open from 8am-9pm or 9:30pm
- Morning Extra Magic Hours 7am-8am
- Disney After Hours at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park 9pm-12am
As I mentioned above, the parks that have Extra Magic Hours for the day, usually have larger crowd sizes.
When planning your September Disney World vacation, it is a good idea to check Disney World’s website to find out which parks offer those hours when you are visiting.
Ride Closures at Walt Disney World in September
I love that Disney takes pride in their parks and attractions so I don’t usually mind if something is closed for refurbishment during my stay.
But it is nice to know ahead of time what to expect.
