Easy Mickey Pretzel Ingredients
*Ingredient amounts are located in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Refrigerated Pizza Dough: Store-bought pizza dough is your foundation for creating the magical shape of Mickey. Found in any grocery store, it makes the process easy and accessible. You can use name brand or store brand pizza dough and get the same delicious Mickey Mouse Pretzels.
- Warm Water: A simple ingredient you have in your kitchen, vital for the baking soda bath.
- Baking Soda: This transforms the dough into a pretzel, giving it that distinct taste and color. Available in every grocery store.
- Egg: Adds shine and color to your pretzel, making it visually appealing.
- Coarse Salt or Pretzel Salt: Provides the iconic salty pretzel crust. Pick your favorite between coarse or classic pretzel salt.
- Flour: Prevents sticking and makes the dough easier to shape into Mickey’s head. A kitchen staple you already own.
How to Make Mickey Pretzels
[Step 1] Open the can of refrigerated pizza dough place the dough on a floured surface. Use a pizza wheel to cut strips of dough, length-wise.

[Step 2] Shape the Pretzels: Roll up one strip of dough, either between your two hands to make a thin rope for Mickey’s head. Cut a second strip of dough in half and use each piece as an ear. Pinch the ears to the head. Place pretzels on a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

[Step 3] Whisk together the warm water and baking soda, then use a pastry brush to brush the tops of the pretzels with the baking soda solution. Be careful not to over saturate.

[Step 4] Make an Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and use a pastry brush to spread the beaten egg over the top of the pretzels. Sprinkle the pretzels with salt.

[Step 5] Bake the pretzels at 450 degrees for 6-8 minutes, depending on your oven. Make sure you keep and eye on them and remove when they are golden brown. Six minutes was perfect for my pretzels.

[Step 6] Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack. Allow to cool for 1-2 minutes. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce. We used cheese sauce!

How to Store Leftovers
To keep your homemade Mickey Pretzels fresh, store any leftovers in an airtight container or a zip-top bag at room temperature for up to 2 days. If you want to keep them longer, pop them in the fridge for up to a week.
When you’re ready to enjoy them again, just reheat in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds or in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes until warm. If you want that freshly baked taste, you can brush a little melted butter on top before reheating!

Tips & Tricks
- Roll the dough evenly: Achieving the iconic Mickey shape starts with rolling your dough uniformly. Keep the thickness consistent for each part – the head and the ears. This consistency is the secret to a well-balanced Mickey pretzel.
- Use a baking soda bath: Dip each pretzel into a mixture of boiling water and baking soda before baking. This step is crucial for creating that distinctive pretzel crust and deep, golden color. It adds to the flavor, creating a delightful taste experience.
- Get creative with toppings: While coarse or pretzel salt is traditional, feel free to experiment. A sprinkle of cinnamon sugar or Parmesan cheese before baking introduces new flavor profiles. These variations offer a delightful twist to your homemade Mickey pretzels.
