What is Dole Whip
If you’ve ever had a Dole Whip at Disney, you know it’s pure sunshine in a cup! This classic pineapple treat is creamy, tangy, and refreshing—like a tropical vacation with every bite. The best part? You can easily make this iconic dessert at home with just a few simple ingredients.
It’s the perfect way to bring a bit of Disney magic to your day, whether you’re dreaming of your next trip to the parks or just craving a sweet, frosty pick-me-up!
Where to Find Dole Whip
At Walt Disney World in Florida, Dole Whip can be found inside Magic Kingdom at Aloha Isle in Adventureland. If you are outside the parks, don't worry, you can head to Pineapple Lanai at Disney's Polynesian Resort for this delicious frozen treat.
At the Disneyland Resort in California, experience this magical treat at the Tiki Juice Bar or Tropical Hideaway in Adventureland inside Disneyland Park. You can also visit Tangaroa Terrace or Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Hotel.
If embarking on a Disney Cruise, you can purchase an alcoholic version on most ships.
Homemade Dole Whip Ingredients
*Ingredient amounts are located in the recipe card at the end of this post.
- Vanilla Ice Cream: The base of your Dole Whip, ensuring that creamy texture we all crave.
- Pineapple Juice: Adds that tangy sweetness, essential for the classic Dole pineapple whip flavor.
- Frozen Pineapple Chunks: For that intense pineapple taste and to keep the dessert wonderfully chilled.
How to Make Dole Whip
[Step 1] Add the ice cream to a powerful blender, or food processor, like my Ninja.
[Step 2] Measure the pineapple chunks and add them to the blender.

[Step 4] Blend completely. You might need to stop the blender and push down the pineapple chunks a few times during blending.
[Step 5] If desired, add the Dole Whip to a large piping bag with a large star tip and place in the freezer for 30 minutes and pipe into an ice cream dish.
[Step 6] Serve with extra pineapple juice to create a Dole Whip Float.

Dairy Free Dole Whip
Swap out the usual vanilla ice cream for coconut or almond milk ice cream, and you’ll bring a tropical twist right into your kitchen without losing that creamy Dole Whip vibe everyone loves!
To get that true Dole Whip vibe just like at Disneyland's Aloha Isle, make sure your blender is set to whip those frozen pineapple chunks into a super smooth, creamy soft-serve. The key to nailing that dreamy texture with a dairy-free spin is a powerful blend and picking a good quality non-dairy ice cream.

Recipe Tips
- If you want a purely authentic version, make sure to use your favorite non dairy ice cream. We like coconut milk ice cream and almond milk ice cream.
- You'll want to make sure that you use a powerful blender and blend thoroughly to avoid having pineapple chunks, unless that's what you want 😉 The homemade Dole Whip will be really thick.
- The recipe below is for 1 serving. I tripled it when I made it and it was more than enough for the 5 of us.
- I probably would only double the recipe next time, as it was hard for the blender, even my powerful Ninja, to get all of the pineapple chunks.
- If you want your treat to have the to have the look of the standard swirl of the soft-serve that you can purchase at Disney, add your Dole Whip to a large piping bag, fitted with a large star tip. Place the piping bag in the freezer for about 30 minutes, then swirl in an ice cream dish.
- You can also make my favorite, a Dole Whip Float, by adding it to a tall milkshake glass and adding some reserved pineapple juice!
- To take it up another notch, add a cute paper umbrella or a fun paper straw. If you're going to make this at home, you'd might as well go for the gold!
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use fresh pineapple instead of frozen for homemade Dole Whip? While fresh pineapple can be used, using frozen pineapple chunks yields a creamier texture and helps achieve the signature consistency of Dole Whip. If using fresh pineapple, it's recommended to freeze the chunks beforehand.
- Is homemade Dole Whip suitable for vegans and those with dietary restrictions? Yes, homemade Dole Whip can easily be made vegan-friendly and suitable for various dietary restrictions. Simply use a dairy-free liquid base such as coconut milk, and choose a sweetener that aligns with your dietary needs, such as agave nectar or maple syrup.
- Can I make homemade Dole Whip ahead of time? Yes, homemade Dole Whip can be made ahead of time and stored in the freezer until ready to serve. Keep it in an airtight container, and let it thaw for a few minutes before scooping or blending again for a smoother consistency.
- Can I add other flavors to homemade Dole Whip? Absolutely! While pineapple is the classic flavor, you can experiment with adding other fruits or flavors to customize your Dole Whip. Try adding frozen mango, strawberries, or even a splash of coconut rum for a tropical twist.
