Ingredients to make Italian Sliders.

Italian Slider Ingredients

*Ingredient amounts are located in the recipe card at the end of this post.

  • Dinner Rolls: Soft and fluffy rolls make the perfect base for these sliders. Hawaiian rolls add a touch of sweetness, but any dinner roll will work.
  • Ham: Thinly sliced ham adds a savory and slightly sweet flavor. Honey ham can be a great option for added sweetness.
  • Salami: Salty and flavorful, salami gives these sliders that classic Italian deli taste. Genoa or hard salami both work great.
  • Pepperoni: Adds a little spice and a lot of flavor. You can substitute turkey pepperoni for a lighter option.
  • Provolone Cheese: Melts beautifully over the meats, providing a creamy and mild cheese layer. Mozzarella can be used if you prefer a different flavor profile.
  • Sliced Banana Peppers: These tangy peppers add a nice contrast to the rich meats and cheese. If you’re not a fan of heat, try sliced banana peppers instead.
  • Melted Butter: Brushed on top of the rolls for that golden, buttery finish.
  • Italian Seasoning: Mixed with butter to add extra flavor to the rolls. You can use dried oregano or basil as a substitute if you don’t have a seasoning mix.
  • Garlic Powder: Adds a burst of garlicky goodness to the butter mixture. Fresh minced garlic can also work.

Tips & Tricks

  • Toast the rolls lightly: For extra texture, toast the bottom half of the rolls in the oven before adding your fillings to keep them from getting soggy.
  • Layer meats evenly: Distribute the ham, salami, and pepperoni evenly so each bite has the perfect balance of flavors.
  • Don’t overfill: Keep the fillings manageable so the sliders don’t fall apart when eaten.
  • Press down the sliders: Before baking, gently press the sliders down with a spatula to help compact the layers and ensure even baking.
  • Cover with foil: During the first half of baking, cover the sliders with foil to keep the tops from browning too quickly. Remove the foil for the last few minutes to achieve a golden, crisp top.
  • Brush generously: Don’t skimp on the butter, garlic, and Italian seasoning mixture for the tops. This adds incredible flavor and a delicious golden finish.
  • Let them sit: Allow the sliders to rest for a few minutes after baking to set and make slicing easier.

Storage & Reheating Instructions

To store leftover Italian sliders, place them in an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 3 days. When you’re ready to reheat, pop them in the oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes, or until they’re warmed through and the cheese is melted.

For a quicker option, you can also microwave them for about 30 seconds, but the oven will help keep the bread crispy. If freezing, wrap them tightly in foil and freeze for up to 2 months. Just thaw overnight before reheating!

Recipe Variations

  • Swap the meats: Try adding mortadella or capicola for a different flavor twist.
  • Different cheese: Substitute provolone with mozzarella, fontina, or even pepper jack for a spicy kick.
  • Vegetarian option: Skip the meats and load up on grilled veggies like zucchini, eggplant, and roasted red peppers.
  • Add pesto: Spread a layer of pesto on the rolls for extra herby goodness.
  • Spice it up: Add sliced jalapeños or crushed red pepper flakes if you like more heat.
  • Garlic butter topping: Mix some Parmesan into the garlic butter for an extra cheesy crust.
