Ingredients

  • ½ Cup Butter
  • ¾ Cup Sugar
  • ½ Cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, add the butter, buttermilk, and sugar and stir over medium heat until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla and baking soda. The syrup will foam up, which is what gives the syrup it's light consistency.
  • Serve the syrup warm over pancakes, waffles, and French toast.

Notes

  • Make sure to stir continuously while cooking so that the sugar dissolves completely and there are no lumps in the syrup.
  • Don't boil the syrup; just let it simmer until all the ingredients are combined.
  • Use low heat to prevent burning.
