Tonga Toast Ingredients

To make this fried banana-stuffed French Toast you will need eggs, milk or cream, cinnamon, sugar, a loaf of bread, bananas, and oil for frying.

Step One:

For the French toast batter, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and 1 Tablespoon sugar. You can also use a blender or food processor which works great!

Step Two:

Cut the bread into thick slices. Use a knife to cut a slit into the top of each piece of bread, but don’t cut all the way through to create a pocket.

Step Three:

Peel and cut the bananas in half. Then cut the banana slices in half again, length-wise. Stuff two pieces of banana into the bread pocket.

Step Four:

Heat the oil in a large pot over medium high heat until it reaches about 350 degrees. Dip the stuffed bread in the egg mixture, covering both sides.

Step Five:

Use tongs to fry the French Toast on each side for 3-4 minutes until it is golden brown. Remove the toast from the pan and allow it to drain excess oil on a paper towel.

Step Six:

Mix the remaining sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl and coat both sides of the Tonga Toast. Serve with your favorite French Toast toppings and a side of bacon!
