Gather Ingredients

You will need butter, brown sugar, sugar, sweetened condensed milk, corn syrup, salt, and vanilla extract.

Melt Butter

Begin by melting 1/4 cup of butter in a glass bowl in the microwave.

Other Ingredients

Add the melted butter, sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and salt to the microwave-safe bowl.

Mix Together

Stir all of the ingredients together until fully combined.

Heat in Microwave

Put the bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes 30 seconds. (Time is based on 1000 watt microwave. You may need to adjust time and power for your microwave wattage)

Stir

Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir.

Heat Again

Cook the mixture in the bowl again for 2 minutes 30 seconds and remove to stir.

Add Vanilla

Microwave the caramels for a final 2 minutes then stir in the vanilla until incorporated.

Form the Caramels

Pour the heated mixture into a generously greased 9×9 glass dish. Place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

Cut the Caramels

Check to see if the caramels are solid enough to cut into pieces. I let my caramel sit at room temperature for another 10 minutes.

Wrap the Caramels

Cut the caramels with a sharp knife into your desired shape and size and wrap in wax paper.
