Gather Ingredients

You will need a red velvet cake mix, yeast, warm water, flour salt, eggs, vanilla, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, cream cheese, and powdered sugar.

Proof the Yeast

Sprinkle the yeast over the warm water and gently stir. Set aside to proof for 5-10 minutes.

Add Yeast Mixture

Place the cake mix, flour, and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook attachment and turn on for 10-15 seconds. Pour in the yeast mixture and mix.

Eggs & Vanilla

Add the beaten eggs and vanilla extract to the cake mix cinnamon roll dough and stir to combine completely.

Knead the Dough

Knead the red velvet dough for 3-5 minutes until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl.

Allow to Rise

Spray a square of plastic wrap, large enough to cover the bowl, and place it over the bowl to cover the dough.Place the bowl in a dry, warm place and let the dough rise until double in size.

Roll the Dough

Punch down the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to roll dough into a large rectangular shape.

Cinnamon Roll Filling

Spread softened butter over the rectangle and cover the top of the dough evenly with the brown sugar. Then sprinkle the cinnamon evenly over the brown sugar.

Roll the Cinnamon Rolls

Roll the red velvet cinnamon roll dough up tightly starting with the long side of the dough.

Cut Into Rolls

Gently slide a piece of dental floss under the roll. Find the place to cut and pull the two ends of the floss up over the roll and cross them. Pull them tight around the roll and the floss will cut through.

Bake the Rolls

Place the cinnamon rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes.

Cream Cheese Frosting

Place the softened butter in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat for 1 minute. Add the softened cream cheese and beat with the butter for another 2 minutes.

Add Powdered Sugar

Add the powdered sugar to the bowl along with the vanilla extract. Whip the frosting for 2-3 minutes, until it is light and fluffy.

Frost the Cinnamon Rolls

Spread the frosting on the cinnamon rolls or pipe onto them with a large star tip. These cinnamon rolls can be made ahead of time. Check the link below for freezing instructions.
